# Acknowledgements ## Built on WorldsAdriftReborn This project is built on the open-source **WorldsAdriftReborn** project (), used under the MIT License (see `LICENSE.md`; the copyright notice "Copyright (c) 2025 Worlds Adrift Reborn Contributors" applies to their code). Their work, from August 2021 to January 2026, by **sp00ktober, mmjr-x, Cat, BluuWasTakenAlt, TheSpookyCat, kroney2, killzoms, TheLastOperator, IGotzCheeze, Geoffrey Everaert, Viktor Ferenczi, ThisBeMe and Jesper Appelberg**, provided the foundation this project started from: - **The SpatialOS replacement** (`WorldsAdriftRebornCoreSdk`): a native library that stands in for Improbable's SpatialOS worker SDK the game calls, carrying its operations (entities, components, authority, updates) over ENet with protobuf messages. - **The client mod framework** (`WorldsAdriftReborn`): the BepInEx/Harmony plugin and its original patches that point the game at self-hosted services instead of the official ones. - **The login and character server** (`WorldsAdriftServer`): the original HTTP server for sign-in and character creation. - **The game server foundation** (`WorldsAdriftRebornGameServer`): the ENet server loop, the join sequence that loads a client into the world, component serialization through the game's own component code, the update-handler structure, and basic player state (clothing, the glider). At the point this project forked, their code could log a player in and load them into the world with that basic state. ## What this project added Everything else was written for this project, starting October 2026, including: the Haven tutorial and its exit; real per-player accounts and saved characters on the login server; character and world saving (with backups and save guards); trees, chests, loot, databanks, salvage and crafting fixes; the tier 1 island layouts with surface and hanging metal deposits and atlas shards; the shipyard, ship frames, decks, ship parts and the Shipbuilding Tool; flight, docking, island collisions, crash damage and repair; death and respawn; inventory operations (delete, split, merge, pending items); multiplayer (per-connection routing, players seeing each other, a shared world, entity removal); client stability and log fixes; and the launcher. In the line-by-line history of the current code, this project accounts for about 60% of the source and the original project for about 40% (most of the SpatialOS replacement and client mod framework, and about a fifth of the game server). ## Other credits - **Worlds Adrift** is a game by **Bossa Studios**. This is an unofficial community project; it does not include or distribute the game's files - players use their own copy, downloaded with their own Steam account. - **DepotDownloader** (SteamRE, GPL-2.0) downloads each player's own copy of the game. - **BepInEx** (LGPL-2.1) and **HarmonyX** (MIT) load and patch the game. - **ENet** (MIT) carries the network traffic. - Community research notes by **DoubtfulHermit** were used as a source of facts about the original game (no code was copied from them).
